Watertown Stays Unbeaten, Beats Stoneham for First Time in 10 Years
Watertown High School football earned a milestone victory Friday night, shutting out Stoneham 14-0 at Victory Field to remain unbeaten.
The Oct. 2 victory improved the Raiders to 4-0 and marked their first win over a Middlesex League opponent in two years and their first victory over Stoneham in a decade.
Stoneham controlled the clock early, but Watertown's defense refused to break. A lengthy opening possession reached the Raiders' 1-yard line before Watertown came up with a fourth-and-goal stop to keep the game scoreless.
Watertown broke through with 30 seconds remaining in the first half when senior quarterback Coleman Keuchkarian-McKeen connected with senior Shane Garey for a 33-yard touchdown, giving the Raiders a 7-0 halftime lead.
The Raiders added another touchdown in the fourth quarter when Keuchkarian-McKeen connected with Mason Lamacchia for a 6-yard score. Watertown's defense took care of the rest, repeatedly turning Stoneham away and preserving the shutout.
The victory continued an unbeaten start for Watertown while ending two significant droughts for the program.
The Raiders will next host Wakefield on Friday, Oct. 9, at 7 p.m. at Victory Field for Homecoming Night and Educators Appreciation Night.
