Young Reporters Take Over Watertown's Goddard School for World News Day
Preschoolers at the Goddard School in Watertown got a firsthand look at the world of journalism on Sept. 28 as part of a World News Day celebration.
Children ages 3 and 4 stepped into the roles of reporters, learning how to ask questions, use microphones and cameras, and understand the purpose of newspapers. Classrooms were transformed into miniature newsrooms, giving students an opportunity to explore journalism through hands-on activities.
WCA-TV News Anchor Maya Shwayder, WCA-TV videographer Grace Patrone and Watertown News Editor Charlie Breitrose attended the celebration, not only to cover the event but also to engage with students about journalism, reporting and video production.
The young students had an opportunity to interact with local media professionals while learning about the tools and techniques used to gather and share news.
The event was part of a nationwide World News Day celebration at Goddard Schools, designed to encourage children's natural curiosity and introduce them to journalism through hands-on, play-based learning.
The Goddard School serves children from infancy through prekindergarten.
