Freshman Duo Leads Watertown Girls Tennis Into the Future

Most high school athletes need time to adjust to varsity competition. For Watertown freshmen Sara Yasin and Eva Khalarian, that adjustment period was virtually nonexistent.
The two underclassmen emerged as key contributors for the Raiders girls tennis team this spring, helping lead Watertown to a successful season and a trip to the Round of 16 in the MIAA Division 3 State Tournament.
Playing first singles, Yasin finished the season with a 17-4 record and earned Middlesex Freedom League Co-MVP honors. She was also selected to the Middlesex League All-Conference Team and named a Middlesex Freedom League All-Star for the third consecutive year, having earned the distinction in seventh, eighth, and ninth grade. Earlier this season, Yasin was recognized as a Boston Globe Player of the Week.
Khalarian also delivered an outstanding freshman campaign. Competing at second singles, she posted a 15-3 record while earning Middlesex League All-Conference honors and her third straight Middlesex Freedom League All-Star selection.
Together, the freshmen combined for 32 victories and helped power Watertown to a 4-1 victory over Dedham in the opening round of the Division 3 state tournament.
Watertown's season came to an end with a narrow 3-2 loss to Old Rochester in the Round of 16. Still, with two of the team's top players returning for at least three more seasons, the future appears bright for Raiders tennis.
