Mount Auburn Cemetery Opens Two New Entrances, Expanding Access for Watertown

Updated: Apr 22

WATERTOWN – Mount Auburn Cemetery has officially opened two new pedestrian entrances along Grove Street— marking another major step toward expanding access to one of the region’s most cherished green spaces. The entrances are designed to reflect the cemetery’s dual identity as both a historic burial ground and a thriving arboretum, featuring nature-inspired forms and improved accessibility for visitors, students, and community groups. The additions follow the opening of five new entrances last year along Mt. Auburn Street, bringing even more ways for residents to enjoy this remarkable landscape.

In our coverage, hear from Mount Auburn Cemetery President & CEO Matthew Stephens, school leaders from the Atrium School, and volunteers from the Citizen Scientists program about what these new entrances mean for Watertown. Filmed by Dan Hogan
