Watertown Cultural Council Offers Grants for Local Arts and Cultural Projects

The Watertown Cultural Council will open its latest grant cycle Sept. 1, offering funding for artists, organizations, schools and other projects that serve the Watertown community.
Cultural Council Chair Electra T. Newman and board member Greg Papazian recently joined WCA-TV’s Dan Hogan to discuss the council’s work and the upcoming application process.
The volunteer council receives funding from both the state and city and distributes roughly $30,000 annually to support arts and cultural programming. Demand significantly exceeds available funding. During the last grant cycle, the council received 66 applications requesting a combined $220,000.
Applicants do not have to live in Watertown, but proposed projects must serve the Watertown community. The council has supported concerts, murals, school arts programs, community events and other cultural projects.
Applications are submitted through the Mass Cultural Council website. Newman and Papazian encouraged applicants to provide detailed proposals with a clear connection to Watertown, including plans for where their project or event would take place.
The Cultural Council also encouraged residents to attend and support arts and cultural events throughout Watertown and follow the council online for information about funded projects and upcoming opportunities.
