Watertown Residents Get First Detailed Look at Proposed Square Redevelopment Plans

Watertown officials and consultants recently hosted a public open house to share early concepts for the proposed Watertown Square Demonstration Project and larger Urban Revitalization Plan.

The event featured interactive stations, guided walking tours, and presentations outlining possible redevelopment plans for the municipal parking lot area behind Main Street — including concepts for a structured parking garage with ground-floor retail, open space, and improved pedestrian connections.

In this report, residents hear directly from city officials and consultants about the challenges and opportunities shaping the future of Watertown Square, including underground infrastructure constraints, redevelopment goals, and the city’s long-term vision for a more walkable and active downtown district.

Officials say additional public meetings and another open house are expected later this year, with a draft Urban Revitalization Plan scheduled for release in early fall.
