Climate Tech Startup Pascal Celebrates Opening of New Watertown Facility
Climate technology startup Pascal celebrated the opening of its new headquarters at 149 Grove St. in Watertown with a ribbon-cutting ceremony Sept. 17, marking a major milestone in the company's efforts to develop environmentally friendly cooling technology.
Founded by researchers from Harvard University, Pascal is developing refrigeration systems that use solid materials instead of traditional gas refrigerants, which can contribute to global warming when released into the atmosphere. The company hopes its technology will make refrigerators, air conditioners and heat pumps more energy-efficient and affordable.
Company co-founder Adam Slavney says Pascal relocated from a cramped Cambridge laboratory to Watertown to accommodate its growing operations. The company currently employs 16 people, with room to expand to approximately 30 to 40 employees.
Attendees toured the new facility and viewed working refrigeration prototypes. Pascal is currently focused on developing refrigerator technology, with plans to expand into larger cooling systems and air conditioning.
Slavney said he hopes the company's first solid-refrigerant air conditioning system will be developed at the Watertown facility.
